Dwight Rex Newton, Sr., quietly passed away, Thursday afternoon, February 25, 2016 about 2:25 p.m., at the home of his daughter.  He was born August 8, 1920 on a farm near Willard, Missouri, the youngest child of Victor George and Flora Beatrice (Willey) Newton. He lived most of his life in and near Springfield and Willard.

He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-two years, Wilda Ioka (Cantrell) and his brothers, Lon Willey (aka Buster) and Stanley.  He is survived by his sister, Louvenia (Mrs.Raymond) Waddell and his children, Suzanne Stoner and husband William, Dwight Jr. and wife Paula.

Dwight lived his last three years in Suzanne’s home, in the frequent company of friends and family.  His grandchildren are Amy Reynolds and husband Brian, Elizabeth Stoner-Thompson, Amber Ludwig and husband, Justin. He leaves twelve great grandchildren: Brooke Batesel and husband Jonas, Zachary Reynolds, Blake McGinnis, William Patrick Thompson, Allie Westby and husband Taylor, Claire Thompson, Tanner Reynolds, Josie Steen, Lily Reynolds, Karaline Reynolds, Max Ludwig, Alex Ludwig and great great granddaugher, Ella Grace Batesel.  He also, leaves nephews: Steve and Victor Waddell and David and Phillip Newton; and grand-niece, Sarah Hoyt.

Dwight enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the Merchant Marine, Oceangoing Service mostly in the South Pacific, until August 13, 1945. He was a member of the Campbell United Methodist Church for more than fifty years, and was a retired Building Contractor.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Wesley Cemetery, north of Willard, Mo. with Rev. Randy Cantrell officiating with inurnment following under the care and direction of Wilson Brim Daniel Funeral Home.

Family and friends will gather from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. following the services in Dwight and Ruth Newton’s home where they spent fifteen happy years.
