Madge represents the last member of the Oliver and Mae Rice Mills “Greatest Generation”.  She leaves behind 19 nieces, nephews and their spouses; 42 great-nieces, nephews and their spouses; 59 great-great-nieces, nephews and their spouses; and 4 great-great-great-nieces and nephews.  Her large family of loving nieces and nephews will miss her greatly!  Madge and Howard began the tradition of an annual Mills Family Reunion at “HAMA Acres” on the James River.  This reunion has continued for over 25 years.  To this family Madge added a host of friends.

Madge was born January 2, 1925 south of Ozark, Missouri.  She graduated from Pleasant Hope High School and loved planning the school reunions.  After school, Madge worked for Frisco Railroad and Southwestern Bell before marrying Howard on February 1, 1951. They lived four years in Tyler, Texas where they operated drive-in theaters.   Upon returning to Springfield, Madge worked with Howard for many years in the auction business.

Madge was a faithful volunteer at Cox North Medical Center for over 30 years.  She often gave to her favorite charities to help youth.  She was saved at a brush arbor revival near Chadwick, Missouri and was a longtime member of High Street Baptist Church.  Madge and Howard made lots of memories on their yearly driving vacations across many states.

All of us who knew Madge well will agree that her gift of storytelling will be missed.
