James Alvin Cummings

August 19, 1953 – April 12, 2019
Age: 65
Residence: Branson, MO
Formerly of: Ft. Leonard Wood, MO

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the First Baptist Church in Branson, Missouri, for James “Jim” Alvin Cummings, 65, of Branson. The beloved patriarch and kind, loving friend died Friday, April 12, 2019, in Branson.

He was born August 19, 1953, at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, the son of James and Velora (Hagemeier) Cummings.  The family moved to Nokomis, Ill., after the army, later locating primarily in the St. Louis area where Jim married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Weber, on August 10, 1974, before earning his bachelor’s degree in biology from Eastern Illinois University.

Jim was a hardworking, loving, and affirming husband, father and grandpa.  He was the wood and concrete manager at Mosby Building Arts in St. Louis. He enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, and watching Cardinals baseball and MU basketball, later developing a passion to cook for Cathy.

Jim volunteered at church, coached his sons’ basketball team, and formerly served on the board for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in St. Louis. They moved to Branson six years ago after he miraculously came back from a tear of the aorta and several strokes, learning to walk, talk and drive again — and went to work at Sight and Sound Theater in Branson where he could encourage others. Most of all, Jim Cummings loved the Lord and his family, especially his grandchildren. They will miss him dearly.

Jim was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Cathy Cummings of Branson; his children: Michelle (Rob) Myers of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Jamie (Travis) Parker of Wentzville, Missouri; Bethany (Jason) Jacobs of Wentzville, Missouri; Jimmy (Megan) Cummings of Branson, Missouri; Rachel Whitley of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Matthew Cummings of Forsyth, Missouri, and Johnny Cummings of Pt. Lookout, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Val Cummings of St. Charles, Missouri; two brothers: Jeff (Judy) Cummings of Arvada, Colorado, and Stuart (Cathy) Cummings of St. Charles, Missouri; as well as several nieces and nephews and many communities of dear friends.

Pastor Jeremy Thomas will officiate the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Options Pregnancy Clinic of Branson. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremation of the Ozarks. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.cremationsoftheozarks.com .
